Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72 years old in Long Beach, California. DuVernay was encouraged by her aunt Denise as an infant. She worked as night nurses to afford her aunt to have the time she needed during her day time to enjoy the pleasures of literature, art and theater. DuVernay instantly fell in love with that 1959 West Side Story film. DuVernay was able to see through her mother's model of that art can be an instrument for activism. In the same way, her mother was socially aware and taught her to say something through the arts. DuVernay lived in Compton for most of her youth, however she spent every summer in the company of the extended family of her father in Lowndes County Alabama. Her father was awed by the historic civil rights march through the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the nearby town of Selma Alabama. The summers she spent in Alabama's Selma would influence her later on to create the film about Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay earned her Saint Joseph High School diploma in Lakewood California. After graduation, she studied at the University of California Los Angeles and graduated with degrees in English and African American study. While she was still in school, DuVernay began to consider producing for broadcast journalism. She began her career as an intern for CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalls being asked to examine the garbage inside the house of one of jury. The tasks that she had to complete left her unhappy and so, after deciding to not pursue journalism, she shifted to the field of public relations. DuVernay started her career as a junior public relations assistant at a small film studio shortly after she graduated from the college. The DuVernay Agency is her first public relations agency. The agency was the first to launch a variety of promotional and lifestyle networks, including Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye. Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25, 1994, is an American retired artistic gymnast. She has also been a two-time Olympian.
