Sarah Hyland

Sarah Hyland was born in New York City to actors Melissa D. Canaday and Edward James Hyland. She began in the business at the age 4 with commercial work and voice-overs. The first film she made was Private Parts (1997). The Object of My Affection was her second film. She starred on Another World (1964), as Rain Wolfe, a child who was found in the park and was fostered by Josie. Sarah would later work with Amy Carlson ("Josie" on AW) multiple times, including Falcone (2000), Law & Order (1990) and Law & Order: Trial by Jury (2005). Sarah was cast in Jennifer Love Hewitt’s The Audrey Hepburn Story(2000) as one of the young Audrey Hepburns. The next year, she was featured on ABC's The Wonderful World of Disney: Annie (1999), starring Audra McDonald, Victor Garber, Kristin Chernoweth and Joe Gould's Secret ((2000) and Falcone ((2000)). Sarah has studied voice as well as tap, jazz, and hip-hop along with film and television work. Sarah, a New Yorker, was also an invited artist in her tap and Theater dance classes at "Reel to Real" Lincoln Center. She was raised by her mother until she was 2 years old. older. She then went to public schools. Sarah was accepted to PPAS in the 6th grade. This was the school where she was until she graduated in 2008. When Sarah was 18 years old and moved to Los Angeles, CA and within two weeks was able to get a pilot name "My American Family". When she was picked up, the name was changed to Modern Family (2009). Sarah is currently playing Haley Dunphy, the oldest Dunphy child. Modern Family (2009) has won multiple awards most notably the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.
