Summer Bishil Bio

  Summer Bishil was a Pasadena, California native. When she was just three years old, young, her family and her moved to America. Summer attended American and British schools in the midst of her family living overseas. They returned to Pasadena just before her birthday, which was on 14th September. Summer was only five years old when she was captivated by acting and took her first acting class. Nine months later she was signed by an agent and manager, and started to pursue her dream full-time. She is enrolled in college in weekends, and works on her degree. She was among the young stars that were featured in Vanity Fair's cover story, "Hollywood's New Wave: The Hottest Kids in Hollywood" in August 2008.Was named one of the "Ten actors to Watch" by Variety (2007).Nominee for Best Actress - Spirit Award. Bishil started taking acting classes when she was 14. Within a year Bishil was offered an employment contract by a management or agency. Bishil began her career with the Nickelodeon TV show Just for Kicks. After that she was signed to a contract with a manager and an agency. Her first big break was in the film of Alan Ball, Towelhead. It is an adaptation of the novel of the same title. Slate critic Dana Stevens said, "Her performance is the most genuine thing in a film which, despite its best intentions, comes off as phony and mildly embarrassing, like an extended PSA about inappropriate touching." Bob Strauss writes for many Los Angeles newspapers and states that Bishil "...is one of the most natural actresses on film ever. Gary Goldstein in a September 12 Los Angeles Times review of the film Towelhead stated that "...newcomer Summer Bishil turns in a strong, nimble, riveting performance in the role of Jasira. In 2009, she directed Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over movie starring Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, and Ashley Judd. Jay Reiner, Associated Press, appreciated her performance. She was in the role of Azula in M. Night Shyamalan’s film The Last Airbender (2010). The sequel was never produced.
