Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25, 1994, is an American retired artistic gymnast. She has also been a two-time Olympian. She was the captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams that were winners in their respective team competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London, she won gold medals in the floor and team events, as well as the bronze medal for the balance beam, which made her the most accomplished American gymnast to compete at the Games. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she took home a gold in the team event, making her and her teammate Gabby Douglas the only Americans with back-to-back team gold medals. Raisman also took silver in the individual all-around and floor exercises. Raisman was awarded silver medals in the individual all-around, as well as the floor exercise. She also is the two-time champion of the national championships of floor exercise (2012,2015) and the national champion in 2012 of balance beam, and a five-time medalist at the national championships for all-around (silver in 2016 and silver in 2012, 2011 2013, 2012 and 2015. In 2013, she was admitted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber, the former gymnast from high school as well as Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994 in Needham. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, & Brett. Raisman is Jewish and claims that "I really enjoy having the opportunity to not only be a representative of the U.S.A but as well the Jewish Community all over the world." Raisman began gymnastics at age eighteen months. She credits her passion for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's squad that took home the gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. She began her training at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8, and then moved to Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was directed by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman graduated Needham High School, 2012 after completing her senior year with online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
